Purpose -as an advertisement contributes to the illegal Israeli settlement on the west bank | Israeli Palestine Conflict News

Facebook has provided more than 100 paid advertisements that contribute to the illegal settlement and extreme activity of the settlement in the occupied western bank, investigating the investigation of Al-Jazira, causing concern that the giant of social media receives a profit from the content that can be violated.

Among the designated advertisements, there were calls for the demolition of Palestinian homes, schools and playgrounds, as well as calls for funds for Israeli military units operating in gas.

Facebook Meta’s material company reported Al Jazeera that any advertising, which is placed on his platforms, was revised by the company. Although he acknowledged that some advertising has been withdrawn to “violate our social issues, elections and policy policies”, he did not specify whether it helped to facilitate illegal settlements built on the stolen Palestinian land, violated these standards.

Legal experts have informed Al -Jaziri that META may be an accomplice in violations of international law by approving, accepting payment and publication of these advertisements. Brian Leishman, a member of the UK Parliament, called the results as “extremely attitude.”

Illegal settlements posted on Facebook

At least 52 paid advertising of Israeli real estate companies have found that they contribute to the sale of real estate in settlements through the occupied west shore, focusing on buyers from all over Israel, as well as some users in the UK and the USA. These advertising was first published in March 2024 and many remain active on Facebook.

“We have reliable processes and teams for viewing ads, and our ads is designed to view ads before they go out live,” said Al -Jaziri’s goal. “This system is primarily based on automated technology to apply our advertising standards to millions of ads that come through our programs, while relying on our teams to create and prepare these systems, and in some cases, to manually review advertising.”

Among the advertising, defined by the AL -Jazzira, were at least four, which contributed to the sale of real estate in the illegal Israeli settlement of Ariel, 20 km (12 miles) east of the green line on the occupied western bank. The list written on Hebrew and aiming at Israeli users of Facebook was paid for a Facebook page called “Ramat Aderet”, which describes itself as “Penthouses for the perfect quality of life”.

According to the web site, the Ramat Aderet project is “two neighborhoods – the north and south – a total of 27 … buildings from 4 to 8 floors. The apartments provide full urban life experience in the ideal neighborhood.” According to a research firm and a financial data supplier, the company has a estimate of $ 300 million.

Ramat Adetine did not respond to the request of al -Jazzira for comment.

The real estate company that sells apartments and homes in Ariel is a frame of an adert that has received funding from the First International Bank of Israel.

Boycott, imprisonment and sanctions (BDS) have long called for a boycott of the bank because of its role in financing illegal calculations. After the pressure, in January 2014, the Dutch Pension Fund PGGM withdrew investments from the bank, while the AXA insurance giant was deprived in 2022.

Another 48 advertising was placed by GABAI real estate, advertising houses in the occupied western coast of Maale Adumimim and the settlement of the Ephrat.

These houses are part of the extension, approved in March 2024 by the “Higher Planning Committee” of Israel, which is controlled by the Extreme Rights Minister of Finance, Neselle Smotrich, which since 2023 no longer require political or military approval for expansion plans.

Yan Gabbai, a co-owner of Gabai real estate, said Al-Jaziri: “Unfortunately, we were able to place only 48 ads because our budget is limited and we advertise on many different platforms. But when we sell more homes to Jewish Jews, our advertising budget will be more advertising.”

Some of the Israelis call the occupied western shore as Judea and Samaria, and the far right government imposed an impetus for the anexation of the Palestinian territory.

Advertising tries to portray life in settlements as idyllic. One lists an eight -room mansion with a “huge garden, a large area of Sukha (seat 50+), aboveground pool, jacuzzi, sauna, cold immersion and exciting species on the desert mountain … A dream house just 20 minutes from Jerusalem! Don’t miss! ”

Carolina is a researcher of the Digital Center of Digital Citizens of the University of Northumbria, Al -Jaziri said that “real estate advertising has been properly designed as standard real estate lists, which allows to evade moderation.”

“Moderators may not know about the nuances of international law,” she added.

According to international law, all Israeli settlements on the West Bank are illegal. The transfer of the civilian population of occupation to the occupied territory is considered a war crime in accordance with the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

Professor Aofe O’Donogue, international law expert at the University of Queen Belfast, said: “On the western bank, property can be purchased and sold privately. However, whether they have a legal title to sell this land in general will be very questionable.

“If the Israeli government contributes to this and they are settlements, they violate the Third Geneva Convention. Here the Israeli government is obliged to prevent illegal settlements.”

Groups of settlers that insist on demolition

Al-Jazira also identified 50 advertisements published by regrowth, an extreme right group of settlers founded in 2006, which called for the destruction of Palestinian homes, schools and children’s water parks. The Group receives funding from the Israeli government through the Council of Settlement of the Western Bank, as well as Aman, another organization provided, sanctioned by the UK and the USA.

One advertisement celebrated the demolition of the Palestinian school, boasting: “Following our request, the forces of the civil administration disrupted the illegal Palestinian school, built in the Herodian Nature Reserve … This school is only one of more than 100 illegal school buildings.”

Another advertisement called for to demolish the Palestinian water park, saying, “Palestinians enjoy our expenses.”

Regavim defended the campaign against the school, stating that it was “built for the sole purpose of creating a confrontation.”

“[It] believed [Israeli] The courts pose a very serious and inevitable danger to the safety and well -being of Palestinian children who were to fill in a makeshift structure, ”Naomder Kan said from Regavim.

Earlier, the European Union condemned the demolition of schools on the west bank, and Human Rights Watch called this practice as “discriminatory and violates children’s right to education.”

Last October, nearly 90 legislators of the United States called on President Joe Baiden to impose sanctions on regrowth.

Regavim denies to be an extreme right or settlement group, instead claiming a “main, professional participant in a public discourse and is a frequent participant in discussion and discussions on national policy.”

But the British MP Leishman said: “The discovery that is the Israeli far-right pro-dealer, as well as enterprises, and allegedly even active Israeli soldiers, can use social media to promote what can be perceived as illegal within international legislation.”

Facebook raising for Israeli soldiers in Gaza

In addition to the expansion of settlement, META also provided platform advertising for Israeli military units operating in gas, even after the ceasefire was announced.

Legal experts claim that allowing such advertising may violate international humanitarian law by promoting military operations in the occupied territory.

Nine advertising, paid by Israeli singer Mayer Malik, searched for donations for sniper teams, drone units and special forces battalions placed in gas. One advertisement that is still active on Facebook reads: “We urgently need a tripod shooting to fulfill our mission in Gabalia.”

Other advertising demanded the funding of drones for the Battalion of Yasar and the elite unit of the Israeli army in Rafah, as well as the night -hell glasses for the Holani brigade.

Malik did not respond to two requests from Al -Jazzira’s comments.

According to META advertising recommendations, “announcements should not facilitate the sale or use of weapons, ammunition or explosives. This includes advertising for the accessories of weapons modification.”

Professor Negdon of the University of Queen Mary, the United Kingdom, said: “Facebook makes money for criminal activity.

“Allowing the third parties to place such ads, Facebook becomes a complicit of their criminal activity, as the ads themselves play a role in whitewashing, normalizing and legitimizing the actions that, according to the international humanitarian legislation and the Roman statute, are curves.”

Leishman added: “Social media giants should be much more cautious as they allow them to appear on their platforms rather than profit from organizations with a dangerous and divergent agenda.

“It is time to start taking responsibility so that they are not comprehensive in systematic violations of international law.

“Everyone is obliged not to recognize, assist or assist in supporting the illegal occupation of the Palestinian territory – the giants of social media are not exempted and not higher than the law.”
