Cave spiders use their networks in a way that has not been seen before

Spiders, known for complex circular webs, changed their style of rotation in dark spaces to create obvious threesomes for walking prey.

Those who make round webs are known as ball weavers, and most of them capture mosquitoes, beetles and other flying insects in sticky spiral frames, rarely attached to external structures such as branches of trees. But the European cave ball spiders (Meta Menardi) Attach their cobwebs to cave walls, using twice as many silk strands that seem vibrate when they descend from unsuspecting creepers, says Thomas Heselberg at the University of Oxford.
